A LENTEN MESSAGE FROM FATHER PHIL

If you want your dream to be
Take your time, go slowly
Do few things but do them well
Heartfelt work grows purely
If you want to live life free
Take your time, go slowly
Do few things but do them well
Heartfelt work grows purely

– Donovan, “The Little Church”

Sabina preached a sermon recently which began with a story from Zeffirelli’s film Brother Sun, Sister Moon, about the life of St Francis. The film’s music is all by Donovan and it is amazing. The above quote is from one of the songs and it seems highly appropriate for Lent which begins on Wednesday. Our Lent flyer is out and as usual there is a lot on offer. I hope that most people will want to join one of the five groups reading Rowan Williams’ simple yet insightful little book Being Christian, but there are lots of other things on offer too. It’s a great joy to have such a superfluity of things to explore in Lent, so do take advantage of this! But as the song says, ‘Take your time, go slowly.’ Lent is a Springtime for the soul and a time to savour, a time when we can journey deeply into our walk with Jesus.
