A Safe Place to Begin Again for women leaving abusive or controlling relationships
Cowley Haven Homes has a particular commitment to supporting women leaving abusive or controlling relationships, including those who may be facing homelessness or housing insecurity as a result.
Leaving an abusive relationship can be an extraordinarily difficult step. Alongside the immediate question of finding somewhere safe to live, there may be concerns about children and family, finances, employment, benefits, legal matters, personal safety, and what the future might hold. Sometimes the first need is simply for a safe and confidential conversation with someone who will listen without judgement.
Through Cowley Haven Homes and the wider ministry of the parish, we want women experiencing these circumstances to know that they do not have to navigate everything alone. We can offer a confidential and compassionate first point of contact, helping people consider what support they may need and, where appropriate, signposting or referring them to specialist organisations and statutory services able to provide professional advice and practical assistance.

You do not need to know exactly what help you need before getting in touch. An initial conversation can simply be an opportunity to talk, in confidence, about your circumstances and consider what support may be available.

Where there is a safeguarding concern or an immediate risk of harm, information may need to be shared with appropriate safeguarding or statutory services in accordance with the parish’s safeguarding responsibilities. Otherwise, conversations will be treated with sensitivity, discretion and respect.
